What are the prerequisites for enrolling in a video editing class or our other classes?
Our intro level courses as well as the Six Week Intensive, assume no prior knowledge of editing or software involved. Previous experience is required for advanced courses. A basic working knowledge of the Macintosh Operation system will enhance your experience. For those with no Mac experience, we recommend taking a basic introductory Macintosh computer class prior to your Manhattan Edit Workshop course.
Can I tour the facilities?
Prospective students are encouraged to visit out facilities Monday-Friday from 10am - 5pm to gain a sense of our program and space. Please call to make an appointment 212-414-9570 or email jason@mewshop.com.
Do I need to bring anything to class?
You should bring pen/paper for notes. We provide everything else.
Can I work with my own material in your workshops?
We provide the course material for our one week, two-day, three-day and weekend courses. Six Week students may bring in their own material to edit during the final two weeks of the course for inclusion on their reels.
How do I register for a course?
You may complete the online registration form by clicking here or call us directly at 212.414.9570 and we will guide you through the registration process. Your enrollment will be confirmed by email within 48 hours of the payment being received and processed. If students register on a weekend, we may not be able to process their enrollment until Monday morning.
What is a valid form of payment?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, money order and personal checks and cold hard cash.
Are there educational discounts for educators and students?
We do offer educational organizations 10% discounts on most of our workshops. Please inquire with jason@mewshop.com regarding qualifying workshops.
Do you offer financial aid or scholarships?
As a small art school, one not associated with any universities or colleges, we are unable at this time to offer financial aid or scholarships for our courses.
We do offer a private student loan and a no-interest payment plan for our Six Week Intensive Workshop. All students must fill out the appropriate loan application through Manhattan Edit Workshop and be approved by an outside organization. In our beginner workshops we focus on the basics of each program so you'll have learned the core skills needed to create or work on projects. in our advanced classes
How long does it typically take to complete a video editing, color correction, vfx, sound, or production courses?
Our classes are one-day, two-day, three-day, five-days, and six weeks in length. Most classes run 10am - 6pm with an hour break for lunch.
What software or tools are commonly used in video editing, color correction, vfx, sound, or production classes?
The most popular editing software tools are Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, and Apple Final Cut Pro.
Will I receive a certification or qualification after completing a video editing, color correction, vfx, sound, or production classes?
Students are able to take Avid and Blackmagic certification exams upon completion of eligible workshops. Students also receive a certificate of completion for each course that is completed.
Can I take video editing, color correction, vfx, sound, or production courses classes online or are they only offered in-person?
Most classes are offered both online and in-person.

Our classes range from $249.00 to $5,850.00.

Manhattan Edit Workshop does not promise employment after completing our workshops. Jobs that students may be able to apply for work or enhance their skills in editing, assistant editing, post production, and production.
Can I use video editing skills for personal projects, such as editing home videos or creating YouTube content?
Yes. Our courses apply to all forms of media creation.
Are there different types of video editing classes, such as film editing, documentary editing, or commercial editing?
No, all of our video editing classes can apply to each genre.
How experienced are the instructors in video editing, color correction, vfx, sound, or production courses classes or your other courses?
All of our instructors are working editors, colorists, sound professionals, vfx artists, media specialists; as well as certified instructors.

Our Six Week Intensive Workshop has an alumni group that all Six Week Intensive Workshop alumni are eligible to be a part of. Our “Sight, Sound & Story” in person event is open to anyone looking to network. All of our students get discounted or free tickets to these events.

How much hands-on practice can I expect in a video editing, color correction, vfx, sound, or production classes?
All of our classes are on average 50/50 between hands-on practice and instruction.
Do video editing classes teach audio editing and sound design techniques?
Our more advanced editing workshops will focus on these techniques.
Are video editing classes focused on specific genres, such as music videos or short films?
Only our Six Week Intensive Workshop explores very specific genre based editing. All of our editing classes will touch on techniques as they relate to the tools in each editing application.

Yes, our video editing classes will help students pursue a career in post production or expand existing editors skillset as they move up with their career.
