Fundamentals of DSLR | 2 Day

Fundamentals of DSLR Video Production Training - $399

[TWO-DAY INTENSIVE, 10am - 5pm]

Through discussing key concepts of DLSR Video, demonstration on the camera components and hands-on shooting activities, students will learn the basic principles and applicable skills of operating a DSLR camera for video production, and some techniques and strategies for shooting high quality video.

 

DAY 1:

Module 1 (10am - 11:30am)

  • Setting up and controlling your DSLR - An introduction to making connections and installing cards.

  • Menu Controls (Resolution, Frame Rate -Understanding all the relevant menu settings and which controls are important under which circumstances.

  • Lens Controls (Iris, Shutter, ISO) - A basic overview of the buttons on the lens and camera body to get the best default picture settings.

Module 2 (11:30am - 1pm)

  • Lenses (Fixed, Variable, Focal Length - Understanding lenses may be the most important part of working the camera. Addressing common types, configurations and visual relationships will be the “focus”

  • Shot Composition (Framing, Thirds) - Working with different shots and when to use them. How to use the frame and working with perspective and depth.

Lunch Break

Module 3 (2pm - 3pm)

  • Studio Demo - Taking all the skills learned so far, into a fun interactive demo. Examining different environments and how to take advantage of a real world shoot. Some focus on SetUp and going handheld.

Module 4 (3pm - 4pm)

  • Audio Setup (on camera, external) - Working with different mics and checking levels in the camera and with outboard gear.

Module 5 (4pm - ?)

  • Practice Shoot - Go out and show us what you can do.

 

DAY 2:

Module 6 (10am - 11:30am) 

  • Shoot Review - Examine the footage and make critiques and review in effort to improve on different shots. Discussion of what worked and what didn’t.

Module 7 (11:30am - 1pm)

  • Interview Set Up, 3 point Lighting, Framing and Design - Examining the role of the producer and camera operator of a field news shoot. How to stage an interview as well as working with field lights in a location environment.

Lunch Break

Module 8 (2pm - 3pm)

  • Video for FX, Green Screen, background plates - Shooting original footage to be used in visual FX projects demands some extra considerations and techniques involving lighting, framing and establishing source material for the effects edit.

Module 9 (3pm - 4pm)

  • Day 2 Practice Shoot - An opportunity to shoot some additional footage with additional skills and a more advanced techniques.

Module 10 (4pm - 5pm)

Post Production, Transfer and Transcode - Working with the editor as a camera operator, and transitioning between the role of DP and assistant editor.  Working with different file formats and organizing and storing your content.

Field Audio Production Workshop - $249

[ONE-DAY INTENSIVE, 10am - 5pm]

Through developing a fundamental understanding of audio interfaces, mixers and microphones, students will build basic skills for recording and delivering quality audio in field and location environments. Mobile Media | 2 Day

Mobile Media for Corporate & Promotional Videos - $595

[TWO-DAY INTENSIVE, 10am - 5pm]

This two-day workshop covers everything you need to know to create professional mobile video for in-house, corporate and promotional applications . You’ll learn which devices, apps and support gear best suit your needs, how to set up professional lighting on the go, and techniques to capture high-quality audio. 

In this course, you’ll shoot a sample video “profile” and learn the workflow of archiving, editing, color grading and uploading your final projects.

Day One/Session One: 10:00am - 1:00pm

  • Devices, gear and software - understanding the goals, tools and challenges

  • Best apps for pro video and proper configuration

  • Video stabilization - how and when to move the camera

  • Audio recording and an overview of microphones & mixers

  • Lighting on location and on the field

Day One/Session Two:  2:00pm - 5:00pm

  • Interview techniques and shooting B-Roll

  • Using a mini teleprompter

  • Planning your shoot and thinking downstream

  • Students will shoot a short “Profile” video.

Day Two/Session One: 10:00am - 1:00pm

  • Students complete shooting profiles

  • Backing up footage for edit and archive

  • Review video footage with critique and suggestions for improvement

Day Two/Session Two: 2:00pm - 5:00pm

  • Introduction to mobile editing with iMovie, Pinnacle Studio and other apps

  • Adding lower thirds, graphics and other effects to your project

  • Color correction on mobile devices

  • Saving, archiving and uploading your final project

Using Facebook Live and Live to Air, you’ll learn which devices, apps and support gear best suit your projects, how to set up professional lighting on the go, and techniques to capture excellent audio. You’ll learn how to enhance your live production with multiple cameras as well as how to add titles, graphics and video clips to your live stream.

  • Students will produce a live multi-camera broadcast using Live to Air
