Take your color grading skills to a professional level with Manhattan Edit Workshop's two-day COL 201: Advanced Color Grading with DaVinci Resolve. Designed for experienced editors, colorists, cinematographers, and finishing artists, this hands-on course explores advanced grading techniques including secondary color correction, power windows, tracking, keying, HDR workflows, look development, image refinement, and professional finishing. Learn the tools and workflows used by professional colorists working in film, television, commercials, documentaries, and streaming productions.

What You'll Learn

In COL 201: Advanced Color Grading with DaVinci Resolve, you'll master professional finishing workflows used by colorists working in film, television, commercials, documentaries, and streaming productions.

Project Preparation & Conforming

  • Create editorial dailies from RAW camera files

  • Build an edit-ready look for offline editing

  • Export XML and AAF files from Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Successfully conform projects in DaVinci Resolve

  • Troubleshoot and resolve common conform issues

  • Compare conforms against offline reference movies

  • Import and sync production audio (.WAV)

  • Relink projects from proxy media to original RAW camera files

  • Understand the advantages of Conform vs. Bake workflows

Professional Color Grading

  • Primary color correction using Lift, Gamma, Gain, Curves, and Log controls

  • Advanced secondary color grading techniques

  • Build cinematic looks for narrative, documentary, and commercial projects

  • Preview grades across an entire timeline using split-screen and gallery tools

  • Create, export, and manage custom LUTs and PowerGrades

Advanced Resolve Techniques

  • Power windows, tracking, and animation

  • Advanced keying and masking workflows

  • Working with the new RGB Mixer and RGB Node tools

  • Using external mattes to isolate complex image areas

  • Integrating visual effects shots into a color grading workflow

  • Understanding when colorists should use ResolveFX and third-party plugins

  • Troubleshoot optical flow, retiming, and audio issues

Professional Delivery

  • Render high-quality ProRes and DNxHD files for editorial

  • Export H.264 files optimized for web delivery

  • Deliver Rec.709 masters for broadcast and streaming

  • Prepare projects for DCP and theatrical delivery

  • Learn professional finishing workflows used in modern post-production

Who should take COL 201?

This course is designed for editors, colorists, cinematographers, and post-production professionals who already have experience with DaVinci Resolve or have completed COL 101.

Do I need prior experience?

Yes. Students should already understand the fundamentals of DaVinci Resolve color correction before enrolling.
